The Valkyrie Summer Clinic is a five-day hockey program for girls that’s all about getting more ice time, building confidence, and strengthening the female hockey community in Rhode Island. We’re here to support players of all levels—from girls just learning to skate to those playing at prep schools—by giving them a place to grow, connect, and have fun.

Each day includes two hours on the ice, where we work on skills like skating, puck handling, shooting, and game situations. We split into groups based on experience so everyone gets the right level of challenge, but we also bring everyone together often for games, team drills, and off-ice bonding.

Off the ice, we have an hour of education each day covering everything from nutrition for athletes to equipment basics—like how to choose the right stick flex, curve, and lie, or understanding skate sharpening and fit. We want every girl to feel confident in how they train and play.

We also bring in female role models—this year, we’ve got college coaches and a pro player coming to talk about their hockey journeys, what it took to get there, and what they’ve learned along the way. Just as importantly, we talk about how to stay involved in the game even if you’re not going pro. Coaching, reffing, mentoring—there are so many ways to give back and stay connected, and we want our players to know that hockey has a place for them at every level.

At its core, the clinic is about creating opportunity. We help girls find the right next step for them, whether that’s another clinic, a local team, or just a clearer sense of what they want out of the game. We also aim to get more women involved in coaching, because we believe representation matters—on the ice, behind the bench, and in the stands.

It’s a fun, supportive, and inclusive environment, and by the end of the week, players leave with better skills, new friendships, and a stronger connection to the game.
